Remarkable Upgrade

Remarkables Chairlift Upgrade Well Underway

Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts are gearing up to reap the rewards of an upgrade to one of Queenstown’s most frequented chairlifts, thanks to the help of Allied Concrete. For nearly four decades, the Shadow Basin Lift at The Remarkables Ski Field has taken thrill seekers to the top of one of the world’s most renowned ski and snowboarding resorts. Ready for a much-needed upgrade, Doppelmayr reached out to the team at ACL to lay the foundations for the highly anticipated renovation. Over the past four months, the ACL team have delivered over 728.60m3 to the resort, with the help of helicopters and trucks which have climbed up to 1750 metres to reach the site. The biggest pour totalled 82.20m3, with very little left to go until completion. A very special thanks to the Alexandra Plant for helping with trucks and drivers on these pours – it has been an incredible project to be a part of. The new chairlift is set to cut travel time from 8 minutes to less than four, increasing lift capacity from 1,500 riders to 2,400 riders per hour, and open up access to nearly 50 percent more terrain across 47 hectares.
