Hydrogen refuelling station update
The HWR Hydrogen site is progressing well, with the recent
successful commissioning of the Allied Petroleum forecourt,
scheduled to open to the public in the near future. The timing of
the launch aligns with the construction of a new roundabout on
State Highway 1 near Bluff, as well as upgrades to Lake Street,
which serves as the main entrance to the Freight Haulage site
and depot.
The forecourt will offer diesel and AdBlue refuelling services and
will be available to all Allied Petroleum customers.
Improvements to Lake Street and the new roundabout are
expected to enhance access and traffic flow, making it easier and
safer for trucks, heavy machinery, and members of the public to
enter and exit the site for refuelling. These upgrades are designed
to support current operations at the forecourt and prepare for the
future opening of the hydrogen facility.
Construction of the hydrogen production area has been a complex
undertaking. As the first project of its kind for the company, for the
contractors involved, and the first of its type to be commissioned in
the South Island, it has naturally involved new challenges. However,
each step has offered valuable lessons that will help inform future
developments. There is strong anticipation for the site’s opening
and the opportunity to see dual-fuel vehicles refuelling locally for
the first time.
