2,700 tonnes required for the monster truck track
Cromwell Bulk recently completed another major earthmoving project for the entertainment industry, this time for the Hot Wheels Monster Truck Show in Dunedin.
In August, Jamie Harrington was contacted by a former colleague from his previous touring show contracts to assist with moving 2,700 tonnes of dirt required to create the monster truck track. Cromwell Bulk teamed up once again with trusted partners McEwan Haulage and Clearwater Earthworks to deliver the project.
Work began on Thursday, 18 September, at around 6 p.m. A protective cloth underlay was first laid over the turf, followed by 128 tonnes of plywood to safeguard the ground. Once the base was ready, the soil was transported into the stadium and the track was constructed. The trucks wrapped up operations around 6 a.m. the following morning.
The Saturday show was a complete sell-out, with 15,400 attendees enjoying the high-octane entertainment. Due to popular demand, an additional show was added on Sunday.
Immediately after the final event, the removal of the track commenced. It took 11 hours to cart all the soil out of the stadium. While the job presented its challenges, it was also incredibly rewarding for the team to contribute to such a spectacular event.
Thank you to all of the staff and subcontractors involved for their hard work and professionalism in ensuring a smooth and successful operation.
