About HW Richardson Group
The HW Richardson Group Limited has grown considerably since Robert Richardson set up in business as a builder back in 1916 in the township of Wyndham, Southland.
With his building business growing at an incredible pace, Robert moved to Invercargill in 1935. His company undertook many projects over the years including; the construction of schools, state housing contracts, churches, the police station, airport terminal, hospital contract, numerous commercial and office buildings, and hundreds of transportable homes.
Roberts’s son Harold (Bill's Father) founded Southern Transport Co. Limited in 1946 to cart timber from the Niagara Sawmilling plant and in 1948 took over the running of the building business known as R Richardson Ltd.
Expansion continued with the purchase of the remaining shares in the Niagara Sawmilling Company in 1954 and the addition of South Invercargill Transport Company in 1960. This launched Bill into the transport business and he went onto purchase more local companies. Ready Mix Concrete followed with the acquisition of Allied Concrete Limited in 1976 which had branches in Invercargill and Gore. More complimentary businesses followed over the years the most significant being Farrier Waimak in Christchurch in 1984 and King Ready Mix Concrete Limited in Auckland in 1994.
In the early eighties, Harold’s sons Bill and Ken Richardson divided the business to pursue their respective interests and Bill formed the HW Richardson Group to operate the transport and concrete divisions.
The HW Richardson Group is now owned by the Richardson Family. Supported by many loyal, long serving employees, it is focused on growth within their core and aligned businesses, and aims to continue moving forward into an even brighter future.
