Our drivers are the backbone of our industry.  At HWR they are our ambassadors and we create communities of drivers who embrace our ethos and methodology.  We believe in hands-on teaching techniques in a learning environment that inspires and excites.  Since 2002 we have been cultivating our driver training students New Zealand-wide through our registered and accredited Driver Trainers.

National Certificate

National Certificate

This qualification is for people who work in the commercial road transport industry and who require a Class 4 or Class 5 driver licence to drive goods service vehicles. It provides a pathway to higher level national certificates including the National Certificate in Road Transport Management (Operations) and the National Diploma in Road Transport Management.  This qualifications core compulsory standards ensure that the driver has the skills and knowledge to identify and respond to hazards; select and record routes; prepare a heavy motor vehicle for use; and load, drive, and unload a goods service vehicle safely.   The optional strands are designed to recognise the specific skills required to transport bulk dangerous goods, livestock, and perishable products by road.

SAFED (Safe and Fuel Efficient Driving)

SAFED NZ is a comprehensive one day, off-the-job driver development course.  It teaches safe and fuel efficient driving techniques through a combination of theoretical and practical exercises.  The aim of the programme is to enhance driver's knowledge and awareness of fuel efficient driving techniques and to discuss fuel efficient driving issues. Benefits of the programme include reduction in the use of fuel, reduced vehicle crashes and vehicle running costs, improved driving standards, improved road safety and improved health and well being.

Dangerous Goods

Anyone who handles or transports any dangerous goods (e.g.) fuel and chemicals by road in New Zealand needs a Dangerous Goods endorsement. The Dangerous Goods endorsement expires every five years when you must re-sit an assessment, and have it endorsed on your licence.  Our driver trainers are qualified to run Dangerous Goods courses.

Defensive Driving

Our Driver Trainers are qualified to deliver two Defensive Driving Courses, one to teenagers and the other to experienced drivers.  Teenagers who attend the Defensive Driving Course are 10% more likely to pass their driving test the first time.  In addition successful completion of one of these courses will reduce the time to attain a full driving licence by six months.   Defensive Driving for Fleets and Businesses is about improving knowledge, risk awareness and safety.  Defensive Driving provides a valuable opportunity to refresh your skills and reflect on your own driving ability.
