Corporate Social Responsibility
Playing a part in supporting the communities we work and live in has always been an important focus for HWR. While we recognise that we cannot make donations to everyone who approaches us we do support a wide range of organisations and individuals.
One such initiative we support is Proactive Drive, a Driving Skills Enhancement Programme provided free to students aged between 16 and 19 years of age throughout the South Island and lower North Island (the goal is to offer this nationwide) who already hold a current drivers licence. Young drivers under the age of 25 years remain the most at-risk group on the road. Just obtaining your driver’s licence does not mean we become good drivers. Proactive Drive was formed to provide young people with the practical knowledge and skills to stay safe on our roads. This is an organisation that we have supported for many years now and will continue to do so as we are passionate about keeping our youth safe. For more information on Proactive Drive click here.
Rugby in Southland
In 2015 we made the decision to support Rugby Southland’s Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 rugby teams for the next three years. An ongoing trend indicates a large percentage of boys who are in these teams leave the region on completion of their secondary school studies and one of the challenges is determining how this trend can be reversed or reduced. As part of this sponsorship initiative we gain the opportunity to connect with the boys, present to them some career options within HWR and offer them the opportunity to gain some work experience across the business. The short-term benefits have already seen a number of boys wanting to undertake some holiday work with us
There are numerous other groups and organisations HWR provide ongoing support to such as the Southern Steel Netball team, City of Invercargill Highland Pipe Band and Invercargill Community Patrol and will continue to support causes that align with our values and are of benefit to both our people and our communities.
